Default Shipping Rate Problems US and Canada using FreeShipper

I'm in the US and want to ship to the US and Canada.

Some products I have set as "Always free shipping" (for US only).

I want to sell those same products marked as "Always free shipping" to Canadian customers as well, but I will have to charge shipping since it's more expensive.

I have setup the UPS shipping for Canada zones. However, when I run a test as a Canadian shopper and put a product in the basket that is marked as "always free shipping", it will not display the Canadian UPS rates, nor any other shipping rates.

If I add a product to the cart that isn't marked as always free shipping, then the Canadian UPS rates show up.

Is there some other way I can do this? I thought about using the other Free Shipping module called "freeoptions", but it requires that the shipping be based on Total, weight, or item count. So I don't think that will work since I only want certain items shipped Free.

Yes, freeshipper overrides all other payment modules, except for Store Pickup.

The freeshipper module was not written to specifically restrict it to certain zones. Whether that's a bug or feature is probably one's interpretation vs another.

If you want to restrict it to just one zone, you'll have to write custom code for it to check the zone and only trigger in that isolated scenario.

Like I mentioned before...I have my freeshipper module set up to only apply to US Zones. And as far as I know, it doesn't show the free shipping option at any other time except when there is a US customer checking out or estimating shipping costs.

So it does seem to restrict itself to US zones.

But like you said, it cancels out all other shipping modules...that's where I feel the bug is. Because that keeps you from being able to sell an item to someone located in another zone other than the zone set in the freeshipper module.

Anyway how much coding would this involve? I wish I knew php or I'd do it. Anyone want to volunteer? I'd be willing to make a donation.
