Migration from Linux to Windows installation

Hello All,

We currently have ZenCart running on Linux with MySQL. I'm not familiar with PHP, MySQL and Linux

I was asked to migrate the website to a new hosting company running on Windows 2003 Server. Is it possible?

Yes it is possible but not the way to go as the Windoze box will require Apache, php, and mysql.

ZenCart is written in php and uses mysql you can not get away from this even selecting a win host

Migrate from WINDOWS to LINUX = PROGRESSIVE

Migrate from LINUX to WINDOWS = RETROGRESSIVE

Not sure you would need apache but...
If the new host has php and mysql loaded to IIS on 2003, the transfer would be about the same as transferring from one Linux to another. Make sure you don't have to contact the Mother Ship every time you need to change permissions.

This gives some faith for an easy transfer. Thank. I hope someone in the firm knows the DB username, password and name. I'll look into it tomorrow.

I think the thing that you should be getting from this is unless there is some other GOOD reason to use a Win server - Zen Cart is happiest/easiest on a Linux server

2 reasons:

1. I'm not familiar with Linux, however I'm not sure that even basic knowledhe of the OS is necessary since all interacion is done via FTP and the control panel (web based)

2. The company already has a Windows hosting package. I'm trying to save them some money (hosting in Israel isn't as cheap as in the US )

The OS is behind the secenes - and the Zen Cart script still runs as php/mysql which has little to do with knowing the Win environ.

What is your domain name? .com or?

Another obstacle is that I can hardly contact the one that deployed the website 2 years ago. Fortuatly I found the DB UID/PWD under configure.php.

I host some of my sites in the UK, some in the USA and one in South Africa... Are you obliged to host your sites in Israel? About the only issue with hosting in a western/eastern hemishphere is time zones and the server's clock - but there are work-arounds.

Experts out there... am I missing something else?
