Discount on varities of same item

You'll see I have a discount for 2+ items. But this only seems to work if the customer chooses 2+ of the exact same size and color.

I'd like them to get a discount on any choice of attributes, its still the same item. In other words if they want 3 rings of different sizes and colors they have to choose each one, and add to the cart separately, and the cart is just charging them $9 for each when I'd like it to be $8. I swear I"ve tried every option in the Blank Discount area that I can think of, is there something I'm missing?

Is this something I can fix in Zencart as is or do I have to download, upload and figure out that Quantity Discount addon that I see floating about here?

I understand. There are a number of approaches to discounting, but I believe that they all operate at either the product or the cart levels. What you want is wider than a product, but more specific than the cart total.

You would have to write some code for this in order to specify which products can be combined to achieve what level of discount and to apply it to the cart.

Zen Cart already has a folder (extra_cart_actions) into which such code can be inserted, so that it will be automatically picked up and applied whenever there is a change to the contents of the cart.

There's an example of the sort of code you might use in post 7 of this thread.

There's a second example (the BOGOF one) towards the end of this page which is closer to what you want, but requires a slightly higher level of technical understanding.

This is what the Quantity Discounts contribution does. It's in the downloads area. You want to discount basis of total by item.

Thanks, so the answer is, unless I know how to write my own code, which I don't, I need to download and figure out the QD add on. sigh, I hope that part is easy!

I too am struggling with the same thing - every time I down load something and try to install it I loose something else however will have a go !!

Hmmm well ok. It appears that all I had to do was to check the Mixed Attributes button, now the discount is picked up for more than one of the same ring with mixed attributes.
