Is it possible to create multiple music genres?

I have an online music cd store and would love to create multiple music genres for each product. Some of our cds contain songs in very different genres. Supplying more options would give greater customer satisfaction when they search according to genre. Does anyone know of any workaround solutions?

I am not really sure of what you want to do but you could create sub categories in a category, giving you more choice for you to present your product.

Another solution could be to have the same product in different categories (genres). To do that just copy one of your items to another category linked to the first product, like this when your modify this specific product, the change shows up everywhere, and you do not need to change several products.

I really would still like to have the option of entering two different genre types in Admin under the Categories/Products > Product Description Entry Form. Using subcategories or even using the linking option means that I am stuck to the same display options as my normal categories section (or can I separate categories into 2 separate side boxes with different product display options?)

It would be good if someone with the technical skills could supply some lines of code that opens up the possibility of 2 music genre fields in the Product Description Entry Form. This would be a preferred solution.

I produced a few CDs in the past for a few friends and I had a music store made with Zencart to sell these products and to solve this problem, I did what I just told you.

I was using the categories as genres. I was creating a new product in a category (genre) such as pop and then I was copying this product in another category (genre) such as rock if it was needed. I was keeping this product linked to the first one like this I had only one product to update when an update was needed. You can copy a product in many categories.

It is the easy way to do it with Zencart and it worked very well for me.

If I understand well what you are asking for, it seems to be far beyond regular tech support on this forum. It seems that your are asking for custom development. I would recommend in this case that you post in the commercial help wanted forum on this site.

But think again about what I just said. Again, you probably do not need any customization to reach your goal and if you use the category as genres, it works very well. Is it too complicated to copy a product in several categories ? Also, custom development makes it more difficult to update when a new version is released.

Now may be someone else will have another solution for you but as an easy solution it is all what I can think of right now.
