Using per weight Unit shipping Problem

There's not a problem with the module, just what I need to do with it. Does anyone know if it would be possible to charge handling on only orders less than X quantity?

I know that table rate would do this, but my client does not want to give another option, due to the fact that some products must use per weight unit shipping to make things work right. It's just that with such a small quanitity, the shipping is much less than it should be, so he wants to add a $10.00 handling fee to orders less than 50.

Any help is much appreciated.

no matter the cost - if some items weighs 1 or 5 lbs the shipping charge should be correct

OK,

So, let's say that I have a product that sells for a dollar. I am using per weight unit shipping and have the weight set at .12 (quail eggs), so it charges .12 x qty and that equals shipping cost.

My problem is that for orders less than 50, it doesn't cover the cost of the shipping, so my client wants to add a handling fee for orders under 50 units. Over 50 units, the .12 works out just fine and covers the cost of his shipping. We just need to add $10 to orders under 50 units.

In the per weight unit module (admin section) there is a box for handling charge. I need to modify things so that this only applies to orders under 50 and am wondering does anyone know of where to start. Also, before I get into doing custom coding, does anyone know an easier way to do this?

I still do not follow the logic that $10 is required to cover costs under 50 units??

I understand that this may be what it being requested though...

a combination of per item cost + handling fee and

admin > config > Shipping/Packaging > and these 2 items:

Package Tare Small to Medium - added percentage:weight
Larger packages - added packaging percentage:weight

Figure out what 50 average weight is and add a percentage

Over 50 can be 0:0 or some other value for larger packages
