That 'remove featured prods' again!

Guys,

I appreciate your help converting over.

Quick question.
How to remove the 'featured products' and 'new products' centerboxes from blank shopping cart.

I have looked everywhere and set every option for these to 0 but the actual boxes themselves are still visible (no products).
I could just edit the code itself but knowing my client they'll ask for them back again at some point.

I've search the forum and I've gfi'd for the last hour or so.
There must be something I have missed.

Have you turned off the relevant settings in Admin>Configuration>Stock?
