red flag I think I'm ready for a straightjacket or shock therapy...

I'm getting the 500 Internal Serer Error below:

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@xxxxxxx.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

OK So here's the dealio - I installed zen in a subdirectory the other day and started adding categories, products etc., just to see how it worked. Cool! I logged out of the /admin and thenext day when I went to MY_DOMAIN/admin I got a 500 error. No big deal, I liked zen, so instead of try and figure out what happened, I just removed the installation and re-installed it into the home directory.

Everything worked great. I started adding products, etc., and for two days it worked like a charm. I didn't do anything special, I haven't changed anything except add products and add my company information in /admin configuration.

Well, gosh darn it, but I got another 500 error this morning!! I can't figure it out for the life of me. I searched the site here and someone said something about .htaccess files so I renamed the one in /admin. - no joy- BTW, I can't access index.php in my home directory either and it was working splendidly before (same 500 error)

I don't see any indication of a hack... but who knows.

I am losing my crackers here. I need help. Please.

    Jeff

I would contact your web hosting provider, it could possibly have something to do with them. I had the same thing happen to me in the past and they corrected it.

Yes indeed that's what it was. Now we can all return to our normal scheduled programming.

Rule of thumb - if your Zen Cart worked yesterday and you made no changes to the files or database and then it doesn't work today - Call your host - the program doesn't just break without help.
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.
