Center Box Issue

Okay, I have been stumbling around this all morning. My center boxes show up on the main page. If I go to a category, the center box shows up when there are no subcategories, or if there is only one level of subcategories. However, if there are two levels of subcategories the center boxes disappear.

Cats(category) <Center box shows

Long Hair <Center box shows

Short Hair <Center box shows

Dogs <Center box does not show

Tall Dogs <Center box shows

Long Hair <Center box shows

Short Hair <Center box shows

Short Dogs <Center box shows

Long Hair <Center box shows

Short Hair <Center box shows

This is misleading because it appears if you click on the main category that there are no items in that category when in reality all you need to do is click on the subcategory heading....I am afraid that some customers might not make that distiction.

It's not your center boxes that are "misbehaving"; what you see is the product listing page at the level of the (sub)category that directly holds the products. You cannot get the listing page in the parent category.

If you are concerned about customers not understanding that they have to click a subcat name to see the products, you can put some description and maybe an image in the subcategory definitions. That will better inform them as to the reason for the subcat divisions and why they may want to look at each one.

Mmmm... ok I see your issue. don't yet see what could be causing it. Will have to check on some things.

But why won't the "Featured Products center box" show up?

Configuration > Index Listing > Show Featured Products on Main Page - Category with SubCategories

is what should affect this. If set to true, all levels of parent categories should show the featured box. There is nothing in admin that would further limit the display. So I'm afraid whatever is causing it is a deeper code conflict. Do you have any mods installed that might deal with this subject?

Not sure.... I have editable_side_box. I also have auction_style_attributes but that is only there for environmental handling fee which I am no longer going to use at this time. I have image handler2 and cross sell installed, however I have not yet configured the cross sell yet. Other modules I have installed are for reporting and exporting data only.

Cross Sell sounds like the only one that could conceivably affect the display of the center column. Can you uninstall that (including any SQL changes)? Hope someone else has some ideas...

I am going to need the cross sell in a short amount of time, but thanks anyway. I am taking your suggestion and placing category description and pictures in which will be the work around that I need. Thanks for all your assistance.
