Link to product by model.

Hello.

I have all of my products set up in my store with the model field being used as my brick and mortar stores' actual model number for products. I also have many, many pages set up on a different site of mine which have the item number right at the end of url of the link to my current site (not zen). When I switch my store over to zen cart, i'll need to be able to link to these products my model number, that way I can do a find and replace with all my links on my old site to direct visitors to the new one.

So my question is... Is there some way to pull up products by http://mysite.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_model=999901 ?

instead of http://mysite.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1945

Are all your model numbers unique?

Do you need to add more products to your old site or is this a pure move from one to the other?

If the products_model are numeric this means NO characters other than numbers ...

You could with a careful attention to detail, update all your products_id in the Zen Cart shop use the products_model as the products_id and all future products could then continue from there or have a customization to make this work to prevent duplicates etc.

But, you are not quite giving enough information on what happens in the future on new Products ... and if these are unique numbers or if they are alpha/numeric vs numeric ...

I wouldn't suppose that someone already created and released something that will do this in ALL POSSIBLE CASES... correct ?

I need to make it happen in the worst case scenario, by giving a product listing of multiple items if it's more then one with the same Model Number.

Needless to say that the model number must be alpha numeric, what's the point of a MODEL number otherwise ?

If anyone happens to pass by and knows this has been done please LMK!
I did not find any mods of sort on here applicable to this situation
