Turning off site

How do i turn the site off so that the public cannot view it and i can add a custom message for them to see, incases of when i go on holidays for example and want to close the store for that time?

You can declare your site Down for Maintenance, and choose what file you want your customers to see.

I see that I can add an IP to allow viewing while in maintenance mode but can I add multiple IPs?

If you look at the instructions in the sidebar where you enter the IP address, it tells you that you can enter multiple addresses just by separating them with a comma.
