help question Question about setting up a new Custom Template

Okay, so it seems that you have to create a new custom template to keep from overwriting your files upon upgrade... Is this correct?

I have followed the steps to create a new template. I have not copied any language files etc into a new folder.

I applied the new template in the admin panel.

Okay, now what do I do? Do I need to copy all those language files, etc into new include/languages/CUSTOM folder?

The FAQ says not to do that until you change them? What if I don't plan to change them all?

The sad thing is, I really liked the default template. It just happens that the green with gray background is perfect for what I'm doing. The only thing I didn't like was the width (too narrow).

Now that I have the new custom template applied my store is all funky pink & yellow.....

    What do I do next?

    Thanks soooooo much!

    C,
If you like the classis stylesheet.css if you already started working on your site before you fixed here with the override files.

    1. includes/ templates/ classic/ css/ stylesheet.css
    2. Now copy this data
    3. Paste it to the following:
    4. includes/ templates/ your_template/ css/ stylesheet.css
    5. Now all the beautiful colors will be there.

You only need to copy the files you need/want to change. There's no need to copy all the files into your custom folders.

But if you really like the Classic template and want yours to look like it, you do need to copy all of the files under /classic/ to /your_template/. The stylesheet is most of it, but tile_back.gif in /classic/images/ is also essential.

Glenn is spot on. The stylesheet controls much of the appearance of the site. If you've already made changes to includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css, you can use something like WinMerge to see the differences and copy the stuff you need.
