As an after thought I allways make a copy and store it of the unedited file before I edit it just in case I need to go back or make a big goof and need to start over, that way I don't need unzip a full copy of zen-cart to get the file back.

ok so how od imake a back up im looking for the files i need to change are the gen php file i download edit then upload??
I'm struggling to work out what you want to do here.
You're talking about setting up a XML sitemap for Google (and other search engines).
There is no need to edit any php here. And it looks like you are very unsure of the protocols that are involved in editing and saving zencart php files.
If I were you, I'd leave these alone for now, until you've had time to learn how these protocols work.
Besides, you do not need to edit any php to create a XML sitemap.
There is even an online service that will create your sitemaps for you (www.xml-sitemaps.com).
When you have your sitemap(s), you simply ftp these to your website's root directory.
Then (with Google for esxample), yiou log into your Google Webmaster account, and using Google's features, set up the referencing links to these sitemaps within Google.
As said earlier, there is a zencart module in downloads that does much the same thing - only that it's been built to work more effectively with zencart.
Yep its ok it worked a treat i have the site map uploaded and goolge indexed me thankyou very much.
