Using 4 decimal places (Currency) whilst displaying only 2?

hi,
i did and i tested changing a couple of things but nothing changed.

does this only change the no of decimal places from x to 2, or
does it actually make the shopping cart use $2.79 calculate rather than $2.7924 (this is the figure from the quantity discount if use a certain percentage to discount)
