Default AOL issues... also can't search forum well.

    Hi!

A couple of my clients are having issues with their clients who are using aol (of course, I'll state in my not so humble opinion it seems that those still using AOL tend to have issues functioning adequately in the information age). They are claiming a slow site, cart editing issues, not being able to order only one quantity, only two, quantity changing issues, etc. I'd like to search this forum, but can't search three letter terms. America Online returns no results.

I must also say that I've used this site much, for many years and I find the search function greatly lacking. One example: if you search for "this AND that" you get threads with "this" and threads with "that", but can't get it to search for both "this AND that". Is there something I'm missing??? Are boolean searches supported in this forum?

Can't help with the AOL thing (people still use AOL?), but you're right about the search problem. It seems like it might be a vbulletin thing, since many other forums I frequent behave the same way. It surprises me that you can't set the search process to search for 3 letter terms, or allow the AND operator.

I usually go to Google and search for "zencart forum" and the terms I want to find, but I really shouldn't have to.

You can also use the Google Search Box (assuming you have the Google Toolbar installed), input your search term and select the icon for "Search only on: www.zen-cart.com". It works a treat.

As for AOL there is a reason their nickname is AOHell. Before delivering up a page on their service they cache every element of the page on separate servers. That has to slow things down. Also, one connection from AOL will show up as 20 separate sessions (or more). It's very difficult for AOL users to follow a session trail.

It is a vBulletin thing - Please voice your complaints about the search to them. Thanks!
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Are you saying that putting asterisks around it will make it work? I tested that and I don't seem to get different results with them as without them.

I have looked in the vBulletin forum, and it seems like boolean search is an option that needs to be enabled by the forum admins.

Here's one specific thread about it:

and another (as a matter of fact, I used a boolean search to find this thread, it works on their forum):
