Is their a sidebox for the cross sell mod?

None. You can of course code 1 using the existing code of the xsell module.

A sidebox for cross sell would be a welcome mod. There used to be one but I am not sure that it still exists in the download section.

to the edible sidebox mod will it generate the recommended effect or is it much more to it?

There is one. It was done by Ryk a long time ago. Back on 1.2.7 i believe.
I did edit it to work on 1.3.x
I'll see if i can find it and post it in downloads

Anymore news on this? This iss exactly what I'm looking for (I personally find that the cross sell info gets a bit lost beneath the description)
