UPS shipping - can I choose to prevent combining weights?

Hi....
I am currently using the standard UPS shipping module.
I have the maximum shipping weight set to reflect the heaviest item in my catalog.
All of my catalog items are pre-packs of specified quantities of products.
The pre-packs are shipped separately in drop-shippable packaging.
Some of the pre-packs weigh much less than the maximum shipping weight.
The UPS shipping module combines those pre-packs and gives an estimate that is lower than the rate we will actually pay shipping the pre-packs individually.
Am I missing something - or is there no way to set the UPS module to calculate shipping based on a charge for each item (pre-pack)?

This is not built into the current UPS shipping module as the weight is looked at as the whole ...

You are wanting the the pre-packs to be set as their own package ...

You would need to customize the code to get a quote for each pre-packaged to get the same type of quote you are expecting on shipping ...

More or less you need a different boxing technique to be used in computing the weight and then run through the loop of products as you have set them up to be stand alone boxes ...

If I understand you correctly, the above quote refers to the customization of the code that would be required?

Is it possible that this enhanced functionality exists in the UPS XML shipping module which I can apparently use in place of the standard UPS module?

I don't use the UPS XML myself but there are a few threads about that which could help you out or you could post your question there ...

You are basing things on pre-packaged vs weight and dimensions ... so I am not sure if that would be a complete solution for you either ...
