Can someone elaborate on the base features of Zen cart's ability to calculate sales taxes? Can it only calculate taxes by state? Or can you set it up to set a different tax rate by city/county? Or do you need some sort of add-on, and are there any reliable, time-tested add-ons that do this?

Did you actually look at any of the threads in this forum? Perhaps search using the state name that you are looking for specifically.

The tax feature seems to be a lot more flexible than I had thought. I searched for 'taxes' in the forum and got a lot of threads returned, including this one:
