    Default Database size limitations?

Does anyone know how robust zencart is? I have a database of 100,000 items that I would like to sell and am wondering if it is well written enough to handle the size without grinding to a halt?

I have tried a version of osCommerce (creLoaded) and they were shocked that I wanted to use over 20,000 items, but said it should work - It was a dog...

Has anyone had experience with a large dataset? I'm not as worried about having too many visitors as I am worried that the code is programmed well enough to accomodate the data.

Anyone? And might it work under shared hosting?

    Thank you!
    Joe

Well i think you should give it a try you can upload your products pretty easily with easypopulate and try it. You probably go with a dedicated host, or a shared host with very few sharing. It is going to put some demand on your database program.

The thing that is reported to really slow Zen Cart down is large numbers of attributes (20-30 per product) on many thousands of products.

For a large db, high quality hosting is a must. You may want to investigate the ZC-certified hosts.

Version 1.4, due out later this year, improves the db efficiency tremendously (see the Roadmap Update September 2007.)

A site of that nature -- no matter what Shopping Cart script is used -- would probably be too large for a Shared Hosting account. Best to look into your own VPS or Dedicated Server.
