I use the old Programmer's File Editor 32-bit version 1.01. Well this works great for all the sql, txt, etc. files. However, it crashes with the larger files. Can anyone suggest a really good editor. Doesn't matter if it's free or costs. I just need to get something to replace this older editor and something that is reliable.

Thank you Clyde. I added this info to my favorites. I didn't even think of using Dreamweaver ... I have CS3 and I never use it. Time to dust it off.

One of the items on that list is Notepad++ (that's plus-plus). It's very lightweight, and seems to do alright with large files.

I just downloaded and installed the Notepad ++ and it's great, thank you. I have used the original Notepad that comes with Windows and it is horrible! Glad to see this little program works and looks so good.

Interesting thread, considering my favourite HTML / Text Editors failed with a recent attempt to open a 160 MB sql file.
Steve, you working with any files of that size?
What file size have you successfully opened with what program?
I'm also aware that failure to open is also related to the hardward specs of the computer used.

The largest sql file I was able to open was 181 megs (just a little more then 200,000 lines of code) and that was with the Notepad++ that DrByte suggested. The program was very slow with that size file but it did open it and saved it once changes were made. Dreamweaver crashed immediately.
I did a quick search and this site: vedit.com says their program can open files as large as 2 gigs. I am sure there are others but I mostly work with files less then 4 megs.
