Please Help! Not sure what is going on!

Just today, I have 60 new customers, bare in mind I started with 3 a week ago. Plus, I keep getting a new customer every 5 mins. The reason it is fishy is because no one is buying anything. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this someone just creating numerous accounts? Is there a way to have a confirmation e-mail or find out what is going on?

I think it's likely that someone is either trying to use your tell-a-friend page to send spam, or will try to buy something with a stolen credit card. What kind of location are these coming from?

I got a new customer the other day, somebody from Ghana. I deleted the account as soon as I saw it, but a few days later, he was back. He had created another account 15 minutes before, and was on the checkout page with a piece of gold jewelry in the cart. Since I don't yet have online payment, he was dead in the water.

The cities are all over the US. Is there a way to create a confirmation e-mail or make it so no just anyone can create an account?

I kept getting more and more people creating accounts so I finally took my site offline. Anyone know what is going on or what I can do?

Turn on those email options and set the email addresses you want them
sent to in Admin/Configuration/Email Options.

Also recommend, if you think they are using your store's email (contact us,
tell-a-friend) to send spam, to download and install Email Archive Manager:
