If you do this you'll have problems BIG TIME.

The numbers must be UNIQUE.

i did a download from my site and opened it in excell the first colum ( v_products_model ) is product model number, it seems this have to have something in it to update. However with my product range this can't be unique, some items have the same number.

i went through and insterted into the products with an empty product number and inserted, nonumber , then split and inserted. work a treat for changeing the porduct weight and i have not recieved any errors.

correction i just checked my site and even though the upload work the item weight was not changed.

So seems i have items without or with the same product number does this mean EP will not work for me???

People in the retail business work with SKU's (Stock Keeping Units). Look at any product packet today - and you will see a barcode. This is a UNIQUE product identifier - a number which is EXCLUSIVE to that product. No other product will have the same number, and when the product is discontinued, the number dies with it.

If you want to run your retail business properly, you should use the same principle - give each product a UNIQUE Model Number (AKA Product Code, SKU...etc).

Easy Populate logically assumes that online retailers work with unique product codes (model numbers), and EP Standard will only work properly if this convention is followed, as it bases its core functionality on the Model Number.

There are many advantages to using a SKU system - even if you sell a small number of products. It is far easier to apply a SKU system in your store, than to abandon EP.

yes everyitem i have does have a real item number from my stockists but again to instert these now with 900 items this will take hours of research and entering so means (is there a quick way) NO.

some items do have the same number though, ie some towel rails are the same just with a different colour or size, same item number just ask for different size. yes i could use atributes but its better to have 2 items in different colour for google base and google listing 2 listings is better than 1
