hahahaha thats how good camolot are they had already set it up for me before i got there![]()
Kit
you had all the links in place for using hotlinking, except for your ssl link I have added that and turned hotlinking on,
as to sending dirty pix, thats not kool cause you never know who will use their site.
and if there is any liability for pornograpy you would be responisble since the image is coming from you, so I would not recomend this course of action,
the second suggestion was to try to swipe business,
did you not complain that they were swiping your images and using them and your bandwidth?
stealing is stealing.....
Best bet
prohibit them from using your images through hotlinking ( done )
contact the site owners, and let them know that you discovered they were using your images and have since stopped them from doing so.
Back to business
thanks merlin, ive just changed the hotlink so it redirects to an image i have on another server that just says, information copied from fire2you.co.uk this might get some people to come to me instead for buy from them.
You kinda hope that when ZC newbies post requests such as "what host should i use for my zencart" that they stumble on threads such as this one. Not only does Camelot look after your technical stuff, Merlin always offers good business advice!
Hey Kit...
I just had to take another peek at the site using your images... Here we are nearly a week later, and they haven't noticed your adverts yet!![]()
i knowstill not had any sales from the fire2you site in 3 months though
think ill have to start selling on ebay to boost some sales and traffic.
I am the developer that worked on the site in question. Let me firstly state categorically that neither myself nor anyone else within my company was responsible for this hotlinking. Furthermore, when I became aware of this I immediately contacted the client and advised them that this was not good practice and left their site vulnerable to external influence, and that all affected product pages should be amended as soon as was reasonably possible. To be fair to the client, this hotlinking was attributable to the naive actions of one of its staff who I believe didn't really understand the consequences of what they were doing.
The subject of this thread is a valid one and there should be more general awareness of this practice which, although not illegal, from an ethical point of view is dubious. However, where there have been sensible and sound comments made by the likes of Merlinpa1969, others have chosen to advocate the publishing of potentially offensive images or have chosen to make totally unfounded and defamatory remarks about the designers of the site. It shouldn't need pointing out that such comments could possibly lead to legal action being brought against them. You must remember that this is public forum and as such you should always consider carefully before posting your comments.
You may have noticed that I suggested that the OP contact the site's owners to see if they were aware of the hotlinking.
When a website is developed by a professional web designer, it seems reasonable to me to hold him or her responsible for the design and it's elements. The remarks in this thread don't seem 'unfounded' to me at all, and they aren't defamatory if they're true.
The images in question would seem to have been an integral part of the original design - I'd be curious to know why your client chose to remove the images you provided and then hotlinked to kitcorsa's, if, in fact, that's what happened.
It also seems to me that replacing the hotlinked images with 'potentially offensive' images, while a little immature, is also a understandable response to this sort of theft of bandwidth.
Registering on this forum solely to complain about members' response to your or your clients lack of integrity, and to threaten legal action (?) seems a little thin-skinned and selfish to me. If you're really a developer who works with Zencart, come on back and join the community.

You seem to have missed the point. The site was designed by us but the client is free to manage the site themselves as they choose i.e. add products, process orders etc. The images in question were not part of the integral design of the site, they were simply pasted into the description field when the product was added by the client. You have made the assumption that because they happened to be generic images relating to attributes that they were part of the site design. I did think hard about posting here but I'm sure that you would feel similarly aggrieved if false accusations were made against you, and the least we deserve is a right of reply.
