    Default Product specific shipping rates

Hi, I currently use the old multizone multitable shipping module to work out carriage for me on versions 1.3.7. Which works fine.

I price carriage charge by order value for the UK and weight for other zones.

However I have a few products which cause me problems with this. They are low value but heavy, or they are very big and need special shipping conditions.

Is there a way of charging a specific carriage charge for these products? So if they are selected the mzmt module is over ruled and the specific rules come into play.

eg. product x is low value but heavy so charge a specific rate for it eg £4 instead of £2.

Product Y is very large and needs special handling charge £50.

The catch of course is if product x is ordered with other products and the order value goes over a certain amount then revert back to mzmt.

If product y is ordered with other products still charge the special price. - I can probably waiver carriage charge on the other products as it would be absorbed by high value of order / special carriage charge.

    Hope this is clear.

    Look forward to your thoughts.

    Regards

    MG

Have I explained my question clearly or is there no solution to this?

Basically for certain products I want to be able to have a specific carriage charge applied?

    An ideas any one?

    Thanks

    My approach MIGHT help you...

I needed separate shipping for the following 2 shipping options

    1. for UK Royal Mail 1st Class, total shipping weight UNDER 2kg
    2. for UK ParcelForce 24, total shipping weight OVER 2kg

Further, I needed either option to calculate according to UK Zones, as defined by Royal Mail and PardelForce.

    • If the shopper's consignment was UNDER 2kg, then ONLY Royal Mail will display, and it will calculate the charge depending on the ZONE of the shopper.
    • If the shopper's consignment was OVER 2kg, then ONLY ParcelForce will display, and it will calculate the charge depending on the ZONE of the shopper.

I managed it and you can see the result at www.edutrade.co.uk

Simply add some items to a cart, then view the cart, and play around with the Shipping Estimator drop-downs. To see how the shipping changes from Royal Mail to ParcelForce, increase / decrease the total weight of items in the cart.

If this effect is what you are after, PM me. The technique is quite detailed and involves cloning the zone rates shipping module, editing some of the code, and setting up shipping zones properly.
