    Default dist-configure.php

    Hi all,

I just don't remember how to use the dist-configure.php files and what their function is.
I know that the configure.php files are used to connect to a database, but I can't find what the purpose of the dist-configure.php files is.
Did a search and found no meaningful answers.
    Somebody clarify, please.
    Thanks.

The "dist-" prefix is an abbreviation for "distribution".
Zen Cart doesn't supply a "configure.php" file, because if it did then everyone upgrading would probably blindly upload the blank file and replace their own actual settings.
Thus, the "dist-configure.php" file was provided as a template example of what a functioning configure.php file might look like.

If you don't want it hanging around, delete it. It serves no useful purpose to a live shop.

    All right!
I remembered something about renaming them, but now that I understand the purpose of them, will simply delete.
    Thank you very much.

When I was installing old versions (like 1.2.5) on a local server, there were instructions to rename dist-configure.php to configure.php. On one attempt I forgot to do this, and it did it for me. That instruction may have been eliminated more recently.

    Thanks for answer.
Yes, that is also the reason for my confusion.
It used to be that way, but now renaming is no longer needed.
ZC install creates the configure.php files with the correct parameters and the dist-configs just continue to hang in there.
IMHO it is best to delete them after install.
    Best regards.

Zen Cart cannot always do that, depending on file permissions and server configurations which are as diverse as the faces on the streets of Manhattan.
