help question Transfering Hosting and godaddy multisite mod

Hi, I'm consitering transfering from godaddy to host 99. My problem was that I need to have a well functioning multisite module but on my godaddy set up it meant I had to install and alter the way the multisite module worked. so now, being a tech dummy I'm not sure if the shared hosting multisite set up is going to allow for future customazation as easily as the standard multisite set up or if every time I want to make a change I'll have to do it for each site again and again. Basicaly I'm wondering If anyone can advise me on should I continue with my comlicated alteration of the standard multisite mod, or give in and start over on host 99, also, if I switch should I start fresh or transefer the whole file tree over including the godaddy customized multisite mod? any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

    Druid,

I don't mean to be rude or crass, but I want you to reread your post.
This time forget that you are who you are, make believe that you're some stranger reading your post.

Then you tell me if you think there's anyone out there that can answer your question.

help question Re: Transfering Hosting and godaddy multisite mod

Gotcha, Ok. So here it is again:

Previously I had installed my Zencart on godaddy shared hosting. I wanted to use the multisite module, this turned out to be hard to do with shared godaddy hosting. The standard multisite module installation had to be altered so that instead of just a separate template for each site we needed practically the whole store file structure (minus the admin section for which there was one 1 shared by all the sites). Not being technically adept I dont know how this structure will affect the future use of the module (aka can I still make global changes to all sites with one alteration or do i have to go in to each site individually and make the same change over and over again?). The main point in this post is that I want to avoid any more problems associated with godaddy service. Thats why I'm thinking about switching to host 99. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how I should handle the transfer, should I have the whole set up from my godaddy installation transferred over? or should I start fresh? because they do offer a free zencart transfer service for signing up and if it would be better to just transfer the site over then I would, but i just dont know.

    Make sense this time?

Makes sense, and I understood the gist of your question the first time. I haven't used the multisite mod, but would expect that if you had to make major changes to it for godaddy, that it would then be a pain to maintain those changes in future mod upgrades. Certainly moving from godaddy to a host that is tailored for e-commerce is a good idea for any site with more than plain vanilla requirements.

    For what it's worth Druid,

Glenn is totally zenned, and therefore, I would have to agree with him.
If your opinion is that the new host is more specialized and deals with ecommerce, then by all means make the move.

As for whether you should transfer or start fresh.
I'm not as qualified to answer that as Glenn is, and he didn't answer that either.

My guess is... that's up to you. eh?

Thanks guys, If anyone is still watching this thread the update is that I decided to stick with godaddy after testing host-99. I don't have any great reasons except for not wanting to risk a screwup on the transfer of an already customized shop. maybe one day when I have money to pay a expert to get it done right I will transfer over for the long run savings.
