    Default Uploading templates

RTM one would say, but I find that difficult to absorb and perhaps to comprehend as I am not as clever as you geeks ...lol ... so I would very much appreciate a helping hand as to how I upload a variety of templates to my site.

So far I have downloaded and unzipped - now what ?

    Thanks

    Liz

You upload new template folders to
    /includes/templates/
so if you had downloaded future zen template
    it should go into folder
    i.e.
    /includes/templates/future_zen
Any decent templates should have instructions for uploading
in a readme text file, contained in zip.

My next question. If I am running 1.3.8a - can I only have templates relating to that particular version or do all templates work ?

    Depends on the template.

Some will work fine even though they say they are for an older version, and some use files that have been modified in the latest version so that only an upgraded template will work correctly.

so when I go to the template package selection (67) - do I download the original (very top right) and then look for any upgrades, or, does the download at the very top include the upgrade ?

How would I know which are compatiable or can this only be established once downloaded ?

The version at the top is the newest. The simpler the template (fewer files modified), the more likely it is to work with a newer version of ZC.

One of the things I am finding difficult to understand is when you download the template to your HD; then open it into its separate file; then from there exactly which files are loaded to the template file ? Then, if its just the files relating to the template, what happens to the rest of the files which were included in the download ?

There should be a readme file included which gives complete instructions, but generally you upload the entire /includes/ folder with its contents to the root of your Zen Cart on the server, and the files will drop into the correct places.

If there is a .sql file included, there should be instructions for running that as well.
