I have been trying all day to get my new product listing sort by date added.
It is sorting the "New Products Listing" alphabetically.

I have a custom template so I'm concerned that this has disabled the sort order from sorting by date some how?

I have selected: Display Product Display - Default Sort Order 7 (Date Added)

Any idea what may be wrong?
