including group discount in welcome email

It's really not my day today.
For some reason I am just not 'getting zenned'

In the welcome email, I understand that if you set up a gift voucher this would be announced in the welcome email.

I need to set up around 20 group discounts.
More will be added, and will be selectable when setting up new customers through 'add customers viz admin'.

What I need is to be able to say something like:
"Welcome XXX, You are in XXX group which means you will get a XXX% discount"
in the welcome email.

For the GV block you can use $GV_BLOCK in email_template_welcome but what would the equivalent be for group discounts?

You would have to add custom code for that into your 'add customers viz admin' mod, and perhaps alter your email template to handle another similar placeholder for your new data.

Correct me if I am wrong but if I search site wide for anything beginning with $GV_ (gift voucher), I can then create a custom tag $GR_ (group).
As well as add this to the database, is there anything else I would need to do?

I don't understand what good a site-wide search would do. You're customizing an addon module to add functionality, right? You're adding new stuff.

If you want a replacable parameter in your email template, just add one ... call it anything you like ... $THIS_IS_MY_PARAMETER would likely work just fine. Then make sure you set a value for it when you prepare your html-formatted email content.

Additionally, I don't see anything you need to add to the database in order to generate extra content for an outgoing email message.
