Different options for different choices

I know someone has to asked this before, but I cant find it or make sense of what I can find

Now I will probably change my mind a hundred times before I go live, but here is an example of what I'm trying to figure out: I have a selection for style (Mens, Ladies, Kids), that's the easy part. Then I have the size, but not all sizes go with each style (ie no 5XL kids, no XS Mens, no 18 month Ladies ).

Is the Improved Attributes Mod the only way to go?

You can create all of these and then only add the pertinent ones to a specific product...see the tutorial

OK, so I read that (again & again) but I guess I'm not seeing what I'm looking for, but who knows, it could be right in front of my face

So if the customer chooses Kids in the first box, how do I make only the kids sizes show up?

That requires dependent attributes, which are not yet supported in Zen Cart. I don't know if the Improved Attributes Controller will help with that. Maybe look at Stock by Attributes?

OK, "dependent attributes", wasnt searching for that. It would appear that from reading the description that the Improved Attributes mod would help, but I cant see how to do it in the admin. Maybe its time to break into the code. Got any idea where to start?

Not really, though to avoid having to reload the page after selecting the first attribute you will likely need to use some javascript.

The Product Attributes Grid mod does cross-reference two attributes to determine stock of say small blue widgets or medium green widgets, so that code may be helpful.

That's kinda what I was thinking...javascript and all, which I know nothing about! The grid may be an option, I was considering that for wholesale customers. It may be kinda ugly for regular customers though. With the grid (if I understand correctly) would that be useful for wholesale customers to say purchase shirts of different sizes with one click?

Butin in again here -

You should consider making 3 seperate categories/products for each of

mens
ladies
kids

Then add only the sizes/attributes pertinent to each - This obviates the necessity of having to have dependant attributes

One selects the product - m, l, k and then chooses a size - color etc
