    Default Problems with FTP images

My FTP freezes, chokes, then dies whenever I try to transfer image files! I have to task manager end the session to close the FTP.

At first I thought I had a virus/malware - did all the checks - nothing.

I installed a different FTP program and the problem persists.

Could this be a problem with a .htacess somewhere?

I beleive that I hotlink protected my images after reading a post by someone who had his images "borrowed" and used on someone else's website - could this be the problem?

IF this makes any sense to anyone, please help. I'm going nuts here trying to get to the bottom of this issue.

    Thanks,

How large in bytes are the images you are uploading?

On the hotlink protection - On both sites in your sig I can grab the images without an issue and really trying to protect from this is futile if on the www

Some of the files are very small (49 bytes) others are larger (14.8 kb).

When I double click the "images" folder to open it - the ftp freezes.

This only happen with images - any other file type I open and transfer is fine!

This issue makes it hard to add some of the great mods that area available from the download section. (Even just a trying to add a new template has issues!)

Are you having the same problem on other hosts?
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

If your problem happens when you're attempting to view the contents of your /images folder, then if you've got thousands of files in that folder, it's not surprising that you may have FTP problems, since it has to enumerate all those files and display their details to you. It's a common problem with FTP and folders with very large numbers of files in them.

In that situation, you can still drag-and-drop images "into" the folder, but opening the folder to view its contents can be problematic.

The workaround to access those files is often to use your hosting company's control panel's file manager tool instead.

    Yes -different hosts, same issue!

I have the problem even if the folder contains only 3 images (like in the Testimonials Manager download).

I have noticed that the icon for the image sometimes changes to a hand! What's that about????
