Help needed on making a back-up

Hi,

I initially set up my store using xampp and then the guy hosting my site did everything else when I ftp'd it to him.

I am not computer literate but need very very simple straightforward instructions on how to ..


1. Take a back up of my store. I currently just use firezilla to go into the store on my hosts computer. I presume I go into firezilla and into the store on my hosting cos computer to save a copy on my own computer and a memory stick but I am not sure exactly how to do this. Can anyone explain it really simply. I am worried that I have no proper backup.

2. Before my site went live I viewed it on my computer using xampp. I would like to download a copy of my store from my host into xampp on my own computer. Then I can make changes and see how they work before putting them on the internet. How do I download copies of my files into xammp?

For your case, use your server's phpMyAdmin to do a backup of your remote MySQL database. Then use your XAMPP's phpMyAdmin to do the restore on your local MySQL database.

For file backups, use your FTP program, and make a copy (drag-and-drop) of your webserver files to a folder on your PC.
