    Default How wide shoul my store be

    A simple question, that I'm still struggling with. I'm sick of catering to these crazy people who still use 800x600. Should I bump up to 1000px wide? I'm just looking for some opinions here. I figure 800x600 people are used to not being able to see the whole page without scrolling. I don't know, what do you think? Thanks.

    Even though all my screens run at 1280, I've gotten to where I prefer the narrower page - my sites are 750px.

    Depends on the design, but full-width pages give me kind of a 'whoa - too big' feeling.

    I would not worry over much about the 800x600 users, on one of my sites they represent less than 4% of the visitors.

    on my 24" my resolutions is set at 1920x1200. I feel like the stores are so tiny!

    Yeah, right now they represent ~4% of my traffic as well. I don't want to lose those people, but I think just because the store is a little bigger than their screen, they're not going to leave just because of that, because they are probably used to it.

    First of all let me apologize for spamming my own thread 3 times in a row.

    I did it! Screw you 800x600ers. http://www.rothsound.com is now 950px wide and it feels so good! The header logo looks huge now though, but maybe I'm just used to the smaller one.

    The banner is now 950 wide, according to Firefox web developer the rest is 800 wide hence the banner overlapping.

    Look for this line in stylesheet.css and change it to 950px

    #mainWrapper {
    background-color: #ffffff;
    text-align: left;
    width: 800px;
    vertical-align: top;
    border: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
    }

    I might also point out that my mother runs her screen at 800X600 so her 85-year-old eyes can read the text.

    Of course, she's not in the market for killer commercial sound systems.

    Safest way is to set template width at 100%...
    should then view correctly in all monitor sizes.

    I'm not seeing any overlap in FF. Interesting. And that is where I changed my store width, then I changed the size of the logo after my store was already widened.

    I don't know where you got that CSS from because my store wasn't even 800px wide before, it was 775.

    Is anyone else having problems viewing rothsound? Thanks.
