help question Change the root of my site from index.php?

    Hi everyone,

I am new to Zen Cart and am trying to configure my store. I've installed everything and at the moment my homepage is: http://www.kitsch-gifts.co.uk/index.php

Do you know how I can change this to: http://www.kitsch-gifts.co.uk/

    Thanks very much,

    Adam

In the root of your site do you find a file named index with an extention other than .php?

If so try changing the extention of it to say - index.txt

DO NOT change the one named index.php just any others like index.heml or index.htm

    See if that assists

This is currently your root home page:
    http://www.kitsch-gifts.co.uk/index.html

Login to your server and rename it - something like OLDindex.html

    Then index.php should take over.

TIP: Keep the OLDindex.html, download, change it to look like the front of your site and then reupload it. If you ever have to take your site offline, simply rename it back to index.html and it'll be the main root index page again.
(You can of course set this in the admin area but I can't remember where off the top of my head)

    Hi again,

There was a file called index.html. I tried renaming it OLDindex.html and even deleting it but the site wouldn't go to www.kitsch-gifts.co.uk without the /index.php extension.

At present, the index.html has been deleted from my public html folder.

    Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help so far

Now that you have deleted it your site defaults to the index.php file...

Clear your browser cache or just refresh several times and you should see the same
