    Default Language File Override

Thank you for the help in these forums, y'all rock, and I appreciate it very much. I find myself unable to answer this question through the existing posts however.

    I have my override folders:

    includes/languages/custom
    includes/languages/english/custom

After modifying a file in includes/languages/english

How do I know if I should save it in

    includes/languages/custom or
    includes/languages/english/custom

Also, where should the modified english.php and index.php go?

I find the site "breaking" (ie. english.php followed by unintelligible text that appears to be Klingon at the top of the page) no matter where I put them.

Always in a override folder in the same tree level that the files you want to edit is...

And ONLY where there exists a "classic" folder by default

So - includes/languages/english.php stays at that tree level and you create a folder for it at
    includes/languages/custom/english.php
    index.php exists at includes/languages/english/index.php
Which is at another level so your edited file is at
    includes/languages/english/custom/index.php

Thanks so much for the assist!

    In my:

    includes/languages/english/custom folder I have a modified meta_tags.php file.
    in
    includes/languages/english is the unmodified original

The title changes exactly correct as I require and all is well except for:

    meta_tags.phpTEXT ` `C}v7 meta_tags.php 鋆`CS at the very top of the page.

    What have I done wrong?

Note: Also in includes/languages/english/custom folder the modified files:
    english.php
    index.php
    meta_tags.php
    shopping_cart.php

    also reside.

    I think I have it

I have been having troubles for months with strange code at the top of the page after editing a file and placing it in my "custom" folder.

Kobra suggested it was perhaps the editor I was using. I have always used Fetch to grab my files then BBEdit to modify them. This time I used BBEdit to "Fetch" my file, I modified it, then used BBEdit to "Place" my file in the appropriate folder.

It worked! The exorcism is complete, the demons are gone.

Thank you Kobra for taking the time to answer my question. I am most grateful.
