Hide Price in "Call for Price" Products (Asked by Many, Answered by None)

Is there any straight-forward means to modify the "Call for Price" settings to completely hide the price for products marked as such? ...or... I guess a hybrid "Showcase, no prices" and "Normal store", possibly with a switch on the category or individual product level. Can either of these scenarios be done?

I know I'm not alone in asking this question. It seems there have been a number of users looking for this solution, but maybe not enough of a need within the group of folks knowledgeable enough to write/modify the code. Here's my problem: I have a number of items that are available to the general public for purchase within my site, however, there are a number of items I need customers to deal exclusively with our sales reps or distributors for purchase due to a number of reasons (proprietary and otherwise). Most important is that these items cannot have pricing displayed. These items for the most part will fall within their own Category, and not sprinkled throughout inline with those available online.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated by a number of us!

Create a custom product type for those products and then you can modify the price display however you want and not affect your other products.
