How to? Product search by Vehicle

Dear Zenners,

Hope someone can point me in the right direction on this.

Our website sells car parts, we want our customers to be able to click on a product type. Eg. "performance filters" then be taken to a search page where they can enter their vehicle details to bring them direct to their part.

Without this it's very difficult to implement... this seems to be a very common function for most vehicle related websites, can anyone point me in the direction of how to add it to Zencart, or even a name of the type of function it is so I can better tune my searching to research it.

There's nothing built in to do this; you would have to write custom software.

You will find that most auto parts sites are very custom built. There are way too many categories for anyone to want to manage through the usual category / subcategory manner. However, if you feel brave enough you are just looking for an ajax call to a php script which would then build the next select box for you after an onclick event. I don't know ZenCart at all, but you would need to have one initial load (makes) and then drag out the specific categories that are subcategories of the make (does it have a parentid)...

Hi, i am looking for something like this also, but did not find anything like it. I know it is a lot off work to achieve something like this.
I found an addon module like this, but it is for Oscommerce and i did not manage to make it work for ZenCart. It is to complicated for me, i am new to php and stuff like this, but the module is not verry complicated.
I am trying my best but i dont think i will get somewhere.
The files and code is a little bit different from what i am used to in Zencart.
May be someone can portit to Zencart, and after that the customization is easy. Until then i keep trying.
I dont know if i am allowed to post the link to the module.
Am i allowed?
