Default Product weight and shipping boxes

I'll try and simplify this messy question.
Lets say the box for my product weighs 1.5 lbs. The product itself weighs 1.0 lbs but, I can fit as many as 7 products in a single box. Also the shipping price changes once I go over 3 lbs.

How do I add the weight of the shipping box to an order?
If someone wants to place an order for 10 products how do I set Zen Cart to charge for a second shipping box with 3 products once 7 products have been ordered?
....now the cost of fuel has gone up so much my shipping service says that it charges $X.xx for the packages under 4 lbs. instead of 3 pounds. $X.xx for packages 4-10 lbs and $XX.xx for packages 20-30 lbs. How do I make those shipping cost changes?

Most of this will depend on what shipping module you use.

However the actual weight of the box can be set up in Admin/Configuration/Shipping-Packaging

    Look for line 4 & 5
Package Tare Small to Medium - added percentage:weight
Larger packages - added packaging percentage:weight

You can enter either of both values here (for each the small and large shipments)

    The percentage:weight :

Percentage is the % of the weight of the product (you set at the product level) that you want to increase the weight of the shipment for, to account for packaging aside from the box (wrapping and such)

The weight is the fixed amount, in your case that would be the 1.5 lbs box you mentioned

So let’s say that you know that each of your products takes about 10% of its weight in packaging + the weight of the box.

You would set this up to be 10:1.5
This would add 10% to the total weight of your products purchased and a 1.5lbs for the box.
So with 10 products at 1lb each the calculation would be

    Box 1:
    (7pcs x 1Lbs)+10%(of same) +1.5Lbs (box)= 7Lbs + 0.7Lbs +1.5 Lbs =9.2lbs

    Box 2:
    (3pcs x 1Lbs)+10%(of same) +1.5Lbs (box)= 3Lbs + 0.3Lbs +1.5Lbs =4.8lbs

For the rest, shipping cost, limit per box and all other question you have are shipping module dependant.

So I suggest you post that info and someone using that module should be able to help you.
