    Default category name max length

First off, I just started using zen as an alternative to the quick cart that go daddy offers...I love the ability to customize nearly everything! Definitely something the other one didn't have.....

Anyway, the question I have has to with the category/products page. Unfortunately I have some categories that are longer than 32 characters. I looked everywhere, tried the toolkit and searched here without result. Where would I need to go to change that max variable? Many thanks.

you will have to manually edit that record field and change the "var" from 32 to 48 or another reasonable value....

In the db? Well that sucks. I would have thought for sure it was in one of the php files or something

Figured it out. Yes you do have to modify it in the db, but finding and changing it wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. woot!

    1. CPanel
    2. PHPMyAdmin
    3. Select database (for example, mine is named zencart)
    4. Select categories_descriptions (look on the left side, select it by clicking on it)
    5. On the right side of the screen after you click on categories_descriptions you will see this: categories_name varchar(32)
    6. Put a check mark next to categories_name then click on the image of the pencil which means "change"
    7. Change the Length/Values to 48 then click on Save.

    I hope that helps you.

I'm interested to know how you manage your hosting account if you don't know what/where CPanel is...

(It may be that your host does not use CPanel, but another host admin interface).

CPanel (or your host's equivalent) has nothing to do with zencart. It is the admin interface you use to manage your hosting account on the host's server.

The more important thing here is phpMyadmin, so if you know how to get into that program (via your host), then you can ignore references to CPanel.

A word of warning... Novices should not play about in phpMyAdmin... a tiny error and your shop could evaporate
