Editing text in template file instead of language file

When customising ZenCart I find myself frequenly changing texts directly in the template files (by replacing echo statements with real texts), instead of going to the language files. I guess I find it convenient this way. Is this bad practice though?

It might be depending upon what the code calls for as language variables might be called in several instances...

If you are utilizing the override system for your edits and there are no other issues you should be safe on an upgrade - albeit you will have more files to merge if there are updated files that you have edited versus one-two lang files
