    Default Why can't I update html_header.php?

I recently created a new template folder, uploaded it and then set it up in the admin panel to accept it. OK, fine there but I wanted to make changes to the html_header.php so it can make calls to my Javascript files and my CSS files besides the defaults so I can bring in my site's navbar. But everytime I upload it, nothing changes. I check a page out in the store, view the source and it's still the original code. Am I updating the right file?

Are you changing the permissions on the files your are editing?

Should I? Do I need to chmod the file to 777 or 755 or something like that? I didn't see that in the instructions.

Yes change permissions to 777, make your edits, save the file "save as" and place the changed file your custom folder.

When you are finished, change permissions back!

NOTE: I personally find it easier to edit pages, by transferring the page to my locla browser, opening it with the text editormake the changes, save the file, then transfer that file to my custom folder.

This method has a few benefits.
    1. File permissions are not changed, so you don't have to worry about forgetting to change them back.
    2. Your new file is easily placed in your custom folder.
    3. No worries about corrupting any "original" files.

    I hope that helps!

Well, here's what I'm doing. I edit the file in Dreamweaver CS3 and then upload it to the server. So it's all being done locally. So I guess what I'm asking is once I up it to the server, what should the chmod be?

Also, I can make changes to other files locally, upload them and the changes take shape online. Anything I do to html_header just doesn't show up.

Take a look at the permissions settings of the original file, and set the new one the same (standard ZenCart defaults).
