Help with alternative layout options

Hi there,

I'm a very new Zen Cart user (please go easy!)

I noticed there are some highly customized templates out there and I'm trying to put my own together using overrides and the style sheet.

Can someone please shed some light on how I might go about making a header that closely resembles this site:
