Default attribute showing as (+$0.00) in dropdown

I inherited my client's Zen Cart web site. The previous company did some custom programming, but I do not know how much & where.

The customer has not been using attributes and should be. I have set up one test product (to show them) with two attributes. Standard/default is unpainted, with an attribute cost of $0. The second attribute is "painted" and has an attribute price of +$5.00. Very simple.

Whether I use a dropdown or checkboxes, the attribute appears incorrectly on the product info page as:
    Painted (+$0.00)
even though it appears correct as +$5.00 in the attribute controller and also previews correctly as +$5.00 from the admin area.

If a customer selects the Painted attribute, the price shows correctly (as base price + $5.00) in the shopping cart.

What could be causing it to appear incorrectly in the product info page as
    Painted (+$0.00)
    instead of correctly as
    Painted (+$5.00)
    ?

Any direction as to where I should look would be greatly appreciated!

I would get a clean copy of the attributes.php module and compare it to your copy on the server ...

Thanks for telling me where to look, Linda - but where can I get a clean copy of that file? It's only on the server in one place, and nobody before me did any back-ups of the original files prior to their messing with things.

I got this to work by using the percentage of cost increase in the price factor area of the attributes controller. It would have been easier to just add the price increase in dollars, but I'm happy it's working. Thanks.

Well - not too 'Zen' - if I use "price" I get the correct text "starting at" in front of the base price but the incorrect price (+$0.00) by the option in the pulldown.

If I use the price factor (percentage), the correct price of (+$5.00) shows in the pulldown, but the regular price area no longer says "starting at".

    Very frustrating.
