Using zencart for conference registration

Hi. I'm a shopping cart (an zencart support forums) newbie. Excuse me for anything I write as I am talking about topics that are unfamiliar to me, yet I know enough to look dumb about what I do know about shopping carts, esp. zencart.

I am considering adding zencart to our website for the use of a conference registration. My idea is that people would go through a set of windows asking them to select things (conference fee, banquet, t-shirt, field trip, etc). They would register and have a total cost for the conference and they would be taken to PayPal to pay. Is this possible? Do I need a SSL for this?

You can set this up albeit maybe a bit differently than you explained...

If conferences are unique as to thing available to do etc...They can be assed as attributes to a specific conference---with costs for each additional

Other items that are not conference specific ie. an organization t-shirt or?? should be seperate items

(registration form) is almost ready to release for the conference registration.
