Host upgraded PHP to v5 (was 4) & I can't access Admin. Do I need to upgrade?

My host upgraded to PHP to v5 (from v4) last night and now I can't access my site or admin section. I have never upgraded and reading thru the steps, it's a daunting task since I've customized a lot over the last 2 years. Do I need to upgrade the entire cart or is there something else I can do to fix this?

I appreciate any and all help. I am not technical so I am hoping there is a simpler way than upgrading. Re-installing and starting from scratch is not what I want to do either.

If you go to my URL, you get something saying you aren't connected to the internet or the site is having problems. The only thing that's changed in the last day is my host upgrading the php without warning. I can't view it from either of the PCs here and my host provider couldn't either. The only thing the two of us could come up with is that 1.3.7 version I am running isn't compatable with php v5 . I have the index files forwarding to my backup site right now.

You say you have never upgraded? That might just be the issue. Zen cart 1.3.5 and older will not run on PHP5. Versions newer then 1.3.5 up through 1.3.8a will run on both PHP4 & PHP5. However, once version 1.4 is released, PHP5 will be a requirement.

you can try replacing
includes/functions/sessions.php with one from 1.3.8 see if that helps

My host just upgraded and I'm running 138a and I lost Zen Cart and my Jrox.
I'm getting a Zend Optimizer is not installed.
