how can i remove the sponsors box around a banner , so that the banner is directly on the background in the side box instead of being enclosed inside the sponsors box??

You did not provide a link to your site nor what template of version of Zen Cart etc etc

But you can try adding this

FYI: while kobra's tip visually achieves the desired outcome, it may have issues with Google's policies, as discussed in the following thread:

I wonder whether there are any alternatives (other then deleting all text in addition to doing what kobra suggested).
