Disabled Products show up in New Products for (insert month)

Hello,
I have a strange glitch happening and I do not know how to stop it from happening.
In the section on my web site that shows "New Products for (insert month), products that I have turned off / status disabled, are shown in there. How do I stop the products that have their status as disabled to stop showing up in the "New Products" area?
When the product that is disabled shows up in the New Products section and you click on it, you get taken to a page that says "Sorry product not found" because of course the product is disabled, but how do I stop those disabled products from being listed in the "New Product" section in the first place?
