tools > send email > loading loading loading

when I goto tools > send email it just keeps loading and loading and loading and never fully loads ever....

what can I do?

You might try re-uploading the file admin/mail.php

Same issue here running latest version 1.3.8a only addons are

supertracker
easypopulate
db backup
ultimate seo url but disabled.

Not only does it hang but it also hangs the whole admin if you try clicking on anything else in the admin.

mail.php was replaced as well still no go

If your server can't handle the volume of data returned from the various email audience lists, you may have to disable the feature.
First go to Admin->Configuration->Email Options, and turn off Show Audience Count.

To test whether it might be related to your mail server's ability to respond, telnet to your smtp host on port 25, count how long it takes to respond. I have seen cases where it can take SMTP hosts 10 or 20 seconds to accept the connection because of high load.

from a command line:
telnet example.com 25

or something similar.
