Couple Questions- Search Box, FTP, easy populate and more

I have been working feverishly on 3 zen carts for the last week to get my sites converted from a horrible cart to zen (I have a 4th zencart i didn't build just operate) and i am just going in circles looking for these answers i have searched the forums, the files everywhere and it's making my head swim

1- Search box says :header_search_def. how do i get rid of it....

2-I don't know how to use my ftp feature and i want to transfer all the pics from one zencart to another... any tips... I set up the account and such but no matter what i do it doesn't work. I think it says in the small print the password is the problem.

3-I imported my products via easy populate knowing my pics and such wouldn't copy but i have tried to upload my attributes and it won't work- it says it's working but no attributes are there when i look.

4- on that note- i have a 3rd site i am building and i would like to copy the product/related files all in one via ftp but i can't get that work.....

I know this is a lot in one post but somtimes its better to see the big picture vs each one and i am new to the forums and don't know where they would all post except the easy populate post....

any help is appreciated!

First thing I'd suggest is stop trying to set up 3 sites at once. Get one working right, then go to another.


Second, you need to learn to use your 'FTP feature' if you're going to be able to use Zencart. Download and install Filezilla (free program) and set up the address, login and password for whatever site you're working on.


Check out Admin - Tools - Developer's Tool Kit. Search for 'header_search_def' and you'll find that header_search_default is defined in includes/languages/english/classic/header.php You or someone has probably deleted the line where that is defined or has removed the text without leaving the single quote marks.


Line 28 in that file looks like this in an unmodified cart:

Line #28 : define('HEADER_SEARCH_DEFAULT_TEXT','Enter search keywords here');

If you don't want any default text in the box, it should look like this:

Line #28 : define('HEADER_SEARCH_DEFAULT_TEXT','');

Ok. I will try doing one but I have found it easier to learn each step in 3's because I don't forget how I did it....but you have a point :)

I did try the developers tool kit and already checked that file- it says exactly what you wrote- and still isn't right.

The FTP isn't filezilla it's coreftp BUT I think Filezilla was a choice. I use FTP on my primary ZENCART all the time with no issues on this new server is where I am having issues... no matter what I do the FTP doesn't work... says password error.... I emailed my host for help.

host helped me get the ftp working- it was a different process on the new server YEAH!

Do you have some template other than 'classic' selected for the site in question?

And the Developer's Tool Kit didn't show includes/languages/english/comstock/header.php when you searched for that string?

I would open that file (includes/languages/english/comstock/header.php) if it exists and see what's on those lines.

doesn't exist... I'm going ask the creator- he already helped a ton :)

lol did exist i failed to install it... once again user error lol... :0

I just need to figure out how to import attirbutes now :)
