Default "source file could not be read" error with downloadable product

    Hello,

I was able to set up a download attribute, indicate a file name verified and its valid, permissions was set as instructed for pub and download folder, chosen redirect in the configuration. I reached the point where I was able to purchase the product, with the download link, i clicked it and this is what i got
"../../filename.zip could not be saved, because the source file could not be read."

Ive tried it with both mac and pc and still getting the same result.
my version is Zen Cart 1.3.8a

    Please help.

Somebody might have encountered the same problem.

    Thanks

Default downloadable product won't download: "the source file could not be read."

    Hello and thanks...

I have been trying to get downloadable products to work. It's all peachy except it won't send the file.

If I have redirect off i get an error from my browser

/tmp/+1peOYCv.bin.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

and if i turn redirect on i get

HTTP 403 - The Default index.html file could not be found

It's running on a linux server...
    ZC 1.3.8

I tried a windows client, I use unix firefox

I checked the .htaccess file and it had the

    Options +FollowSymLinks -Indexes

I read all the post I could find.

The original file is about 20 meg. So I tried a small file. 700K.
    still bad...

The product shows up fine, The checkout works, My Account shows the download button...

I click download and I just get errors

Thank you in advance for your help...

    apon further testing...

when i try it in redirect mode, and it doesn't work...
the tmp directory is still there, under pub and...

the file in that tmp dir is reported as a directory and not a file...

filezilla sez it's a directory. it should be a link to the orig file in download...

    i don't know why though...

    any help would be appreciated...

    thank you

    Downloadable files go in folder
    /download
and best way is to use zip files, which contain
    product being sold.

    Thank you for the reply...

the download file is in the download dir.

also, my second post is possibly invalid. I checked the random named dir and the file in it and my web admin tools reports the file as a link.

filezilla reports the file in the random name dir as a dir.

It seems like the server will not allow the file to be recognized or something. I'm stumped. Its a Doteasy server.

    Thanks again

...and I am using a zip file for testing...

I want mp3 files, but I'm trying anything to get it to work even once.

So i use a zip file until further notice.

    thanks again...

I did not follow THAT tutorial, but I think I did the same steps.

except the tutorial I followed sez the sort order can stay zero.

so mine is sort order zero.

I just now copied a zip file into the random tmp directory, pointed to it with my browser and it downloaded fine. So I am thinking there is some snag with the link aspect of the filelink my ZC puts there for download.

misty, thank you for your help.

Thread above mentions temp folder..but as am unable
to actually view your configuration of downloads in
your zencart admin, regret cannot advise further.
Hopefully dev mod Ajeh may view this post and
offer her assistance. She wrote download files
    for zencart
