    an update to this.
    I solved the 500 server error by removing the email address in:
    zencart admin: "Configuration -> email options ->Set "Contact Us" Email Dropdown List

    I deleted the email address and the contact form works without error.
    so it sucks that we can no longer use a list of email adress in the dropdown list but would much rather stay in business.

    It's possible that your server's mod_security rules are configured in such a way that they were blocking the selection due to the use of a forbidden word ... and thus by removing the address that word is no longer posing any perceived threat.

    On a traditional hosting configuration you'd usually see the "cause" of the "500" error showing in your server's error logs along with the reason for the error. Failing that, the support department should be able to give you that information ... if they're willing to look it up for you.

    Similar issues. Heres my setup and solution:
    Zen Cart 1.3.8 on Godaddy shared Linux hosting
    the admin email address for the account is a free yahoo address. I thought that may be an issue, and in the end it was not the problem, but had something to do with the problem.

    In the admin backend, go to configuration --> email options

    Under "emails must be sent from a know domain" - it was set to "Yes" which must have been the default-
    I set that to "NO" and emails worked just fine for my server.

    I was experiencing the same issue with GoDaddy and I solved it by setting the following two parameters:

    - Admin Home -> Configuration -> Email Options -> - E-Mail Transport Method = sendemail

    - Admin Home -> Configuration -> Email Options -> Emails must send from known domain = NO

    I do not really know why this work but the fact is that it does. Any idea that help me understanding the issue will be greatly appreciated!
